Budding entrepreneurs, before you get started with big scale businesses, you’d probably like to try to out a small simple one first. How about trying out at flea markets first? It’s cheap, fun and most importantly, it’s an opportunity to bond with family and friends.

Here’s how to get started

1. Rental charges
Usually very reasonable. Rope in your girlfriends and share the cost amongst yourself. Best if you can get a few people to join in. So that you have someone to mind the stall for you while you take your time to walk around visiting the other stalls!

2. Supplies
Go find whatever you can. Now there are no more excuses not to rummage through your wardrobe and set aside unwanted items! Clothes, books, shoes, accessories, toys etc. Don’t be shy to ask around; Mum – who knows she has those cool vintage handbags, long forgotten, buried deep beneath tons of mumsie clothing? Or how about dropping by that cute neighbour’s place that you never had the guts to speak to and ask if he has unwanted tees for ‘charity’?

3. Prices
Before starting out, survey the place. Get to know how much t-shirts, jeans, shoes etc, are selling. Branded ones and non-branded ones. Because you wouldn’t want to wonder why your stuffs ain’t selling when it’s priced too highly. Neither would you want not be able to cover your rental charges, never mind the profit.
Point to keep in mind – don’t go too far off, or too far behind.

4. Target customers
Get to know who your customers are. Teens? Foreigners? Tourists? Bring stuffs that will interest your customers. Your things should appeal to the groups of people there.

Other points to consider
You might want to have a signboard to indicate the prices. Be sure to have it big and in strategic places where it can clearly be seen.

Bring picnic mats, foldable chairs, umbrellas. Water is extremely important, especially if you’re going be under the sweltering sun for hours on end. Food too, just in case you get hungry.

What should you do when it rains? Bring a plastic sheet to cover your goodies. Who wants to buy something that’s wet and dirty, no matter how fabulous right?

Remember to have enough, if not plenty of small notes and coins. Carry a small pouch or a small sling bag with you.

Closing down sale
Prices are usually slashed come night time. That’s when you got to put your mighty voice to good use (other than karaoke-ing of course)! Start by asking your boyfriend or husband or brother to start chanting ‘$1, $2, cheap, cheap!” Of course that’s just as an example; you can ‘chant’ any amount you want. Then join in - its fun when everyone does that!

Lastly, always adhere to the rules and regulations set by the management. It is very important to operate within the boundaries and guidelines given.

Don’t be too depressed if your sales were slow. It is, after all, your first venture. You’ll do better with ample exposure and more experience.

Mid-Autumn Yummies

The 15th day of the 8th lunar month of the Chinese calendar falls on 14th September this year, which marks the celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival, or more commonly known as the "mooncake festival" in Singapore. It's not a holiday but is a festival well-celebrated by all Chinese in Singapore.

The celebration includes children carrying brightly-lit lanterns around the estate or the adults hanging lanterns and savouring mooncakes in comfort of their own homes. To most Singaporeans, the most important part of the mooncake festival is of course the mooncakes themselves. It's a time for gathering and feasting on mooncakes!

Mooncakes
The traditional mooncake is filled with lotus seed paste and the salty yolk in the middle, representing the full moon, is an acquired taste. More elaborate versions of mooncakes contain four egg yolks (representing the four phases of the moon). Besides lotus seed paste, other traditional fillings include red bean paste and black bean paste. Today, modern mooncakes differ from the traditinal ones in their ingredients. Coffee, chocolate, nuts (walnuts, mixed nuts, etc), fruits (prunes, pineapples, melons, etc), vegetables (sweet potatoes, etc), ham, and even lychees have been added to give a modern twist to the traditional recipes. Later came the snowy mooncakes, which are non-baked and chilled, then followed by ice-cream mooncakes... With so many varieties of mooncake, aren't you spoilt for choice yet?

What are the different types of SPA massages?

With more and more spas setting up and offering so many variations of massages, how can you tell if you are getting the most genuine rubdown? Here are some notes on the different types of massages.

Shiatsu
Shiatsu (指圧) is a form of Japanese massage that uses thumb pressure. While receiving Shiatsu, you are fully clothed while laying on a mat on the floor.

Stone massage
Heated stones were used by Egyptians, Native Americans and in Lomilomi massage. The ones used for body massage are smooth hot or cold stones, usually basalt or marble. When heated stones are used, muscles relax, allowing the massage therapist to work deeper into the muscle.

Swedish
This style utilizes long, flowing strokes. There are six basic strokes. Oil, cream, or lotion is applied on the skin to reduce friction and allow smooth strokes. Swedish massage has shown to be helpful in reducing pain, joint stiffness, and improving function in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee over a period of eight weeks.

Thai
Thai massage is also known as traditional Thai massage, Thai yoga massage, Thai classical massage, Thai bodywork, passive yoga or assisted yoga. Thai massage is based on Ayurveda and yoga. The massage recipient changes into loose, comfortable clothes and lies on a mat on the floor.

Tui Na (Traditional Chinese massage)
Tui Na (推拿) focusing on pushing, stretching and kneading the muscle. Zhi Ya (指壓) is similar to Tui Na massage except it focuses more on pinching and pressing at acupressure points. They are both based on principles from Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Watsu
Watsu is the combination of hydrotherapy and Shiatsu. The work is done in body temperature water with both the therapist and the client in the water, usually a pool which is between 1-1.2m deep. The work entails much movement in the water and therapists believe that it helps to activate the energy lines derived from Shiatsu.

High-end consumer goods segment is growing, as the number of millionaires, billionaires or high net worth individuals (HNWIs) grow. The speed of wealth creation and accelerating growth of HNWIs is driving the luxury goods segment. War against cockroach

Some sharing over here...

Cockroach that can fly are actually pregnant. According to a
documentary film, their ability to fly stem from a survival instincts
to protect their eggs while incubating. So it's a natural progression
of their ability when a female cockroach gets pregnant. So when you do see a flying cockroach, be sure to send it flying to heaven before it spills its evil spawns out!!!

To totally eliminate their race, after killing the pregnant cockroach,
use alcohol to burn it, so as to totally wipe out the eggs (remember
the movie Aliens, where Sigourney Weaver burns the eggs??) that's the only way to totally kill out these roaches.

Do not, I repeat, do not attempt to flush the dead cockroach down the toilet without burning it or totally squashing it! The eggs will still hatch and climb out to spread their evil around and you'll have more to deal with in time.

Also, do not use insecticide on the pregnant cockroach cos it will only help the eggs to develop resistance against the insecticide in future.

Have you ever, at any one time, had the feeling that life is bad, realbad, and you wish you were in another situation?

You find life make things difficult for you, work sucks, life sucks,everything seems to go wrong...

Read the following story... it may change your views about life:

After a conversation with one of my friends, he told me despite taking 2jobs, he brings back barely above 1K per month, he is happy as he is.

I wonder how he can be as happy as he is considering he has to skimp hislife with the low pay to support a pair of old parents, in-laws, a wife,2 daughters and the many bills of a household.

He explained that it was through one incident that he saw in India ...that happened a few years ago when he was really feeling low and touringIndia after a major setback.

He said that right in front of his very eyes he saw an Indian motherchop off her child's right hand with a chopper. The helplessness in themother's eyes, the scream of pain from the innocent 4-year-old childhaunted him until today.

You may ask why did the mother do so; had the child been naughty, hadthe child's hand been infected?? No, it was done for two simple words- --TO BEG!

The desperate mother deliberately caused the child to be handicapped sothat the child could go out to the streets to beg.

Taken aback by the scene, he dropped a piece of bread he was eatinghalf-way. And almost instantly, a flock 5 or 6 children swamped towardsthis small piece of bread which was covered with sand, robbing bitsfrom one another. The natural reaction of hunger.

Stricken by the happenings, he instructed his guide to drive him to thenearest bakery. He arrived at two bakeries and bought every single loafof bread he found in the bakeries. The owner was dumbfounded butwillingly sold everything. He spent less than $100 to obtain about 400loaves of bread (this is less than $0.25 per loaf) and spent another$100 to get daily necessities.

Off he went in the truck full of bread into the streets. As hedistributed the bread and necessities to the children (mostlyhandicapped) and a few adults, he received cheers and bows from theseunfortunate. For the first time in his life he wondered how people cangive up their dignity for a loaf of bread which cost less than $0.25.

He began to tell himself how fortunate he is. How fortunate he is to beable to have a complete body, have a job, have a family, have thechance to complain what food is nice and what isn't nice, have thechance to be clothed, have the many things that these people in front ofhim are deprived of...

Now I begin to think and feel it, too! Was my life爎eally that bad?Perhaps... no, I should not feel bad at all... What about you? Maybe thenext time you think you are, think about the child who lost one hand tobeg on the streets.

When the door of happiness closes, another opens, but often times welook so long at the closed door that we don't see the one which has beenopened for us.

Think about the people you admire for their exceptional skill and quality of work. They hardly seem to trip up. Even when they do, they invariably pick themselves right up with panache and every strand of hair in place. Blunders that seem to floor the common person simply slide off them.

Let's consider one of mankind's greatest fears - public speaking. We all have to do this in some form at some point in our lives. Notice how no one is truly flawless? There is always some uncomfortable pause, some ill-timed joke, an unsuitable word, or the mic falls off the collar. But why do some faux pas appear worse than others? Why do we sometimes begrudge someone for a slip-up, yet seem to forgive others' blunders almost instantly?

The secret is in the perception of mistakes.

Successful, respected people have mastered their flaws. They understand the role they play in creating uniqueness and motivating learning. Most importantly, they realise that the more you are affected by a mistake, the more likely you're going to make more. The worse you feel about your trip-up, the more likely your audience is going to remember it negatively.

So when you fall, get right back up! Acknowledge it, but make sure people know that you're not going to be cowered by it. Shrug it off and move on. Today's dinner was at somewhere in bedok north...finally got to eat my "mee sua" le...thanks to somebody who brought me there to eat...Over there, it was crowded, or rather crowded i would say..in d end, managed to get a seat n placed our orders...

Mee sua:

It was served in a black soup...understood that it was kind of herbal soup after explanation from "somebody"..hehe...Stall was very crowded..seems like very good business it was having...got to wait 20mins for the mee sua!!
Also ordered "chao la la"..those shells thingy...tasted ok only..will try other stalls the next time..

After dinner:

Very very full...coz drank almost all of the soup of mee sua...and partly due to the "la la"...
Enjoyed a stroll too...shall not elaborate...hehe

Yesterday, I had a weird kind of feeling. That is after a tired day after work, I got home to do the usual SOP stuff.....eating dinner,bathing..bla bla bla...It was after typing my "favourite" bi-monthly report, that I started lying down on my bed..thinking...thinking of the things that had happened to me recently...be it good or bad...happy or unhappy...

Imagine lying on your bed, thinking of all the good and happy things...a smile appears...hee~
Actualli, I was already planning to sleep, when suddenly my mind starts drifting away..n I found myself in "another world" dreaming..As you know, all good things will come to an end eventually..how true it is!! At this moment in time, an sms buzz my happy moments away...it was my shipper, which I shall not mentioned here..scalli kena sued..ekek

After a while, I found myself in dreamland again..

A visit to SOUP RESTAURANT!

Today went to try out a restaurant with my parents at Orchard Paragon. Its called the "Soup Restaurant". I read its slogan: "preserves the age-old tradition of double boiled broths as well as obscure dishes that were once only eaten during your great-grandmother’s time."

Stepping into the Soup Restaurant, you are at once greeted by their waitresses with shrills of “Huan Ying!” (Mandarin for Welcome). Inside their "furniture" are those that belonged to olden times like their marbled rosewood tables for instance. The most popular dish in the house must surely be the Samsui Ginger Chicken. According to their history, it originates from the kitchen of that rare breed of females (Samsui women) who worked alongside men at construction sites in Singapore many decades ago, it was a special dish only eaten during Chinese New Year. The fun part lies in the manner of eating it. 1st u dip the steam-cooked chicken into a thick ginger sauce and wrap them in a fresh lettuce leaf and there u go...Today tried the 3-person set meal...and it was so filling!

My JOB

Today is my 2nd day of work at Global Airfreights. Though started from scratch, there are damn lots of things as well as jargons for me to deal with. Headache....Haiz....a pity I'm not related in this field of study, dats why so difficult rite now...Today learnt alot from my friendly colleagues..thanks to them,makes my life easier and also able to take a breather....

Right now, still waiting on the 8th to go to Airport Police Station to collect my airport pass. Its so troublesome to get down at the bus stop, have my NRIC changed to a visitor pass, and wait for another bus to come, board it and take for another 3 more stops EVERYDAY....this is only the "coming-to-work" part, still have the "going-home" part..same thing like this till the 8th dec...no choice..got to wait...

All rite..shall write till here, next time when I'm free, shall keep this updated!~

Yeah! Finally got myself a full-time job. Its at Changi South there...working in the industry of airfreight forwarding...Juz 1 bus-stop right after our once "favourite" Singapore Ferry Terminal (SFT). Went for my first job interview over this place about a few weeks ago, was supposed to get a reply from them on 19th November, but did not get. So felt abit disappointed..However they called me on the 24th, and I was so happy! Got a job on the first interview I went. So today went to sign some documents over there again, to confirm myself as a permanent worker over there and went to Airport Police Station to apply for an airport pass myself. So starting work on 1st Dec....gonna wear formal, and be a good boy for now...(Probation for 6mths)...

Ok...n for now...got to con't my survey job later in d evening again...

Quick round-up of the week

What a week it has been for me, from being drenched in the rain to making my blood boil.

To start off, it would have to be doing surveys for my part time job again. This time round, its relatively better. Now, if I cannot get the house to do the survey, I just get his/her neighbour. Great huh? Earn $$ much faster too!! But on the sunday, it rained so heavy in the Siglap and Chai Chee area, dammit! Had to run for cover and met some "weird" people. My fren got stuck in this house for like 15mins, listening to an auntie tok and tok on several issues, from political to regional and then to herself, saying she had a some sort of chip planted in her by somebody and they actually use her for experiments and she claimed her white hair came from this experiment thing. Hahaa...(dunno if its true or not...human experiment? WOW!)

Next, I met this unreasonable woman in her house. I just merely asked her some of the REQUIRED questions in the survey about how many people are living in her house, and she reluctantly say. (As if she's housing illegal immigrants, dare not say, and when reveal, muz think so long and hesitated) After that I asked her for her age group, see carefully, its AGE GROUP, not AGE. And she shot back at me, "Aiyoo, where you come from? Why ask this kind of questions one? I tried explaining to her, saying all these demographics thingy are for feedback purposes and it would be kept confidential. Guess what? She just walked back to her house porch there, and carries on to do her stuff. F***! So inconsiderate, unfriendly, stubborn, and most of all IMPOLITE!! Imagining you talking to somebody and she just walked off from your conversation. What a piece of shit she is!

Today is Monday, went to return my surveys to the consulting firm, am in the MRT train, going back home. Saw this guy who enters the train after me, stood in front of me. No offence for him standing in front of me. I was holding one grip and he's holding the other. A few stops from where I was going to alight, I dunno what's gotton in his mind, he suddenly grabbed both of his grip and MY grip!! Crazy fellow! I was holding it for like so long, about 20mins and he's so rude!

Ohh my god! Wad is happening to us Singaporeans?? Where is all our politeness and gracefulness?

Yesterday did my temporary job as a surveyor and went house to house, ranging from HDB, to private housing...Well actually I did my part, but the house owners didn't. (They did not stay at home)...Luckily me and my frens cycled around, otherwise our transport fees were not enuf to recover our losses loh...haiz! Today gotta run and do surveys again..this time at bedok reservoir road...hope i'm lucky today...

Its another night of Champions League football...yesterday got 5/8 hits...i did not want to post my picks,cos i scared not "zhun".....Very confident on the werder bremen match...and they won 5-1!! And of coz my favourite team Barcelona...Won at the last minute, thanks to the brillant Ronaldinho strike!! I watched that game and thought Barca should have won by a bigger scoreline. Chelsea and Valencia were other matches that won and poor Arsenal!! Damn bloody f#$%-ed in Europe...can only dominate in EPL...always perform badly in Europe.....

Today tried out a new game that I bought for my PS1, title is "Tintin", you should had heard of Tintin's adventures rite?? It was like a kid's game...Running here and here...and u muz get all the essential items in a particular round before proceeding...In the noon, went for an interview at StarHub, ask me to do some sort of typing stuff, and i really dunno want to start work or not...d office ...i mean look like crap lo...so cramp...and i dun think got enough space for talking too...

Anyway,they say will get back to me by evening...hello...now wad time liao?? its 9pm when i type these words..."tua kang" leh!!

Really hope i got the other airport job...but muz wait....haiz!......

A gathering for ex-jayans?

Yesterday went out wif my primary skool frens and had a fun time..hehee...can't even decide what to makan for dinner! In the end, ended up wif 2 areas..Blk 85 or "PP" (dats parkway parade). In the end, got a free shuttle bus ride to PP. After eating d mee goreng from the stalls, got a cold joke from d hawker.

"What to drink?"
"Later...."
"Later dun have, not in d menu" DuhZ!

Settled down at Mac later for a large ice lemon tee, and spotted a person, name's "eleven". unique name though, but cute..haha...Anyway, discussed abt our going-to-be gathering in dec...(But later went back to counter and got d free ice-cream to have a 2nd l@@k at the cutie again :P). Went recce of several hotels nearby east coast, found 1 good one though, and another one not so good.(If those who followed will know).....

To end off, updates on some soccer results yesterday nite, chelsea won !! Yea! But when there's something good, bad will prevail. Haiz..Poor Arsenal..damn suay and heng! Missed a penalty and grabbed a dramatic late equaliser from Robin van Persie. Charlton lost, so does Bayern Munich.

Christian Panucci's fall out with Roma boss Gigi Del Neri could lead to a Juventus transfer in January.

Panucci was axed from the Giallorossi squad for the Palermo game following what Del Neri described as "offensive behaviour."

Its unclear as to what exactly happened but the tactician was not impressed with the latest lack of indiscipline at the club.

"He behaved offensively and disgracefully with me and with the team," explained the former Chievo boss.

"The incident happened in training and he showed a lack of respect that cannot be tolerated. Those who do not respect the rules will be punished and the club will take steps."

Panucci has had problems with a number of managers in the past but hes always got on well with Fabio Capello who is now with Juventus.

The latter has already signed him on three occasions in the past during spells at Milan, Real Madrid and Roma.

Now the right-back may be set for a fresh link-up once the transfer window opens in the New Year.

Panucci may move to the Stadio Delle Alpi in a swap deal with Nicola Legrottaglie, a player who excelled at Chievo under Del Neri.

Doug and Ziggy Marley as Bernie and Ernie, two Rastafarian jelly fish with a stinging sense of humor.

"Shark Tale" is directed by Eric "Bibo" Bergeron and Vicky Jenson, with Rob Letterman serving as co-director. Bill Damaschke, Janet Healy and Allison Segan are producing.

2006 FIFA World Cup qualifying

This time around the current holders, Brazil, will have to battle their way through the qualifying process as FIFA decided to scrap the automatic place in the finals.
Once again there will be 32 teams in the final - here's how it all breaks down.

EUROPE

The 51 European nations - Germany qualify as hosts - have been split into eight groups.
The winners of each group automatically qualify for the finals, along with the best two second placed teams. The remaining six nations face a two-legged play-off in order to qualify.

SOUTH AMERICA

The ten South American countries entered qualifying on a normal league basis, playing each other home and away over two years. Nine rounds of games have already been played.

The fifth place team faces a two-legged play-off with the winner of the Oceania region in order to make it to Germany.

Qualifying Table One game takes place on October 14.

CENTRAL/NORTH AMERICA

There are three automatic places and one play-off place available.
As usual, Concacaf have come up with a convoluted and complicated qualifying process. Qualifying is now at the semi-final stage, with 12 nations remaining in the running.

*Note: United States, Guatemala and Mexico are already through to the final round.

AFRICA

African qualifying began in October 2003, when 42 nations faced a two-legged qualifying tie. The winners joined Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa and Tunisia in the second round.
The remaining nations were drawn into five groups of six teams. The winners of these five groups qualify for the finals.

ASIA

The six winners from the premlininary round, plus the highest ranking loser, advanced to the next stage of the qualifying competition, involving 32-teams.
The 32 nations have been drawn into eight groups of four teams. The winners will advance to the final round, whereby the eight remaining nations will be drawn into two groups of four.
The top two qualify for the finals, with the two third place teams facing a two-legged play-off for the right to play the fourth place team from the Concacaf region for a place in the finals.

*Note: Saudi Arabia, North Korea, Uzbekistan, Japan and Bahrain are through to the final stage.

OCEANIA

The First Round took place in May 2004, when the ten minor nations were split into two groups of five. The top two countries from each group advanced to the Second Round.
Those four nations joined Australia and New Zealand in one group. The overall winner of this final group, Australia, will play-off against the runner up, Solomon Islands, for the right to enter a play-off with the fifth-placed South American nation. No team is guarateed a place in the finals.

Father Lankester Merrin thinks that he has glimpsed the face of Evil. In the years following World War II, Merrin (STELLAN SKARSGÅRD) is relentlessly haunted by memories of the unspeakable brutality perpetrated against the innocent people of his parish. In the wake of all he has seen, both his faith in his fellow man and the Almighty have deserted him. He can no longer honestly call himself a man of God.

Merrin has traveled far from his native Holland in a desperate attempt to escape the horrors that he witnessed there. While drifting through Cairo, he is approached by a collector of rare antiquities to join a British archeological excavation in the remote Turkana region of Kenya. They have unearthed a Christian Byzantine church in inexplicably pristine condition - as if it had been buried on the day it was completed. The collector wants Merrin, an Oxford-educated archeologist, to find an ancient relic hidden within the church before the British discover it.

But beneath the church, something much older sleeps, waiting to be awoken. Madness descends upon the local villagers and the contingent of British soldiers sent to guard the excavation. Merrin watches helplessly as the atrocities of war are repeated against another innocent village - atrocities he had prayed never to see again. The blood of innocents flows freely on the East African plain, and the horror has only just begun.
